Got Vintage?

5
Have you noticed that old things have become new again? I am seeing lots of vintage items in peoples work. I found this very cool website run by Heidi at http://shabbychicpapirskatter.blogspot.com/.
I don’t know where she gets these images but she finds some really pretty images. I thought it would be fun to incorporate one these images on a card or lo. All you have to do is click on the image, (you want to make it larger first) then you can save it or print it.(I printed mine on photo paper.) Easy peasy!
 2
Because this project is not s scrapbook page I dont have to worry about acid free items, I used an old piece of sheet music. I inked the edges of the paper.
I have used a Zig photo marker on my photo to give mine a little color.3
I used variious rub ons  - rub ons work great on acrylic! I used Staz On ink for the edges and a few other random items in my stash!
   5
I am lucky enough to have a friend who makes these pretty crochet flowers for me.
7
I actually used one the pages in the 8x8 acrylic album by Clear Scraps! I love using things in a different way than expected!

Mad as a Hatter!

Ok so she is not mad! LOL! But this little hat was inspired by the Mad Hatter in Tim Burtons "Alice in Wonderland"! Yes I am still planning my "Very Merry UnBirthday Party"! ( I will link the post from April 9th here) This is my baby girl in a hat I made with GCD papers!

The papers are Champs Elyees - Paris Nights papers and Pink Redwork - Homespun Chic Collection by Melody Ross. Accessories include: Metal Rimmed Glass Brads - Homespun Chic by Melody Ross, Glitter Chipboard Stickers - Artsy Urban by Melody Ross, Prima Say it in Studs and three hat pins! (Jenni Bolin, Maya Road and Making Memories)

I made the flowers out of ribbon and added a few small feathers out of my stash! Baby girl LOVES this hat and it was so easy to make I am thinking these would make great party hats! Can't you imagine all the kids wearing these hats? So cute! Of course they would all have different colors and styles!

Here is a close up!! I can just imagine all the kids in these cute little hats - when I get them done I will post them for you!!!

                                                                               ***

Here are a couple of fun quotes from Alice In Wonderland (2010)

The Mad Hatter: "There is a place. Like no place on Earth. A land full of wonder, mystery, and danger! Some say to survive it: You need to be as mad as a hatter. Which luckily I am."

                                                                          ***

Alice Kingsley: "Sometimes I believe in as many as six impossible things before breakfast."

The Mad Hatter: "That is an excellent practice."

I love it! Have a great day friends!

Fashionista

Another layout form my "Femininity" kit at Scrapbooking From the Inside Out. Lots of Websters papers in this kit! Here is a close up of the journaling...

That little frame around my tennis shoes is form Melissa Frances. I used several inks to get that metallic look!
Did you notice that the shape of my paper matches the little frame? I used  a Clear Scraps XL Acrylic shape  as a template! That is my favorite shape and I can't bring myself to actually use it for it's intended purpose because then I will lose it as a template! LOL!

Thanks for stopping by!

Dance!

Hello friends! One thing I love about kids is they wear their heart in their sleeves! I mean you know right away if they are happy or sad and they tell you exactly what they think! In baby girls case she wears it right on her face! I don't know why but she gets these bouts of happiness and breaks out into dancing! She doesn't need any music, she is just full of joy!

Of course what better paper to team up her fun personality than with GCD Studios.

Colored Birds - Artsy Urban by Melody Ross,

Book Page - Artsy Urban by Melody Ross

I also used the  Artsy Urban 5" x 7" Mat Pad, the strips for the notes were scraps I had.

The button and the Borders are also from the Artsy Urban Collection.

The letters are Making Memories and KI Memories.

Did you notice the height she gets off the ground? The girl just cracks me up! I felt the paper with birds was perfect for her - she is such a free spirit!

I didn't even know that GCD Studios made buttons! I had to add this button in here - there a ton of different styles in one little package and this was perfect! Very cute!

How about a tutorial?

Thanks for stopping by!

Fresh Start

Seriously where does the time go? It seems like yesterday my firstborn was a toddler running aorund the backyard and Saturday she went to her senior prom!

We are blessed as she went with a dear friend of the family, the have been best friends for almost eight years! We love this young man as if he was one of our own - our kids all love him too. They went to his prom together two years ago.

Of course baby girl thought big sister looked just like a princess and had to get in on the action!

Now you didn't really think I was going to do a post without a layout did you?

I took this picture of my firstborn the day she got her acceptance letter into college. It was a bittersweet day as you can imagine. She is a great young lady and we will miss her; I can't believe this is all going by so quickly! One of my many jobs is to prepare her to become an independant woman, that being said I found it fitting for this months theme at Scrapbooking From The Inside Out ", "Femininity".

Papers are Websters of course!

I can't believe that graduation is only a month away.
Enjoy them while you have them!

A very merry Unbirthday toYou!

Hi friends!

Hopefully by now you have beautiful weather where you are and are ready for some spring projects!
I have been so inspried by Tim Burtons Alice in Wonderland! Remember these posts?

I was thinking about this whole "Alice in Wonderland" theme for a birthday party! One of my favorite chapters in Lewis Carrolls "Alice in Wonderland" book is the one where Alice goes to the "very merry UNbirthday" tea party with the Mad Hatter, the March Hare and the church mouse. Then I thought why not throw a party now? What a fun surprize for the kids! Shhh... don't tell the kids, I have alot of planning to do!
:)
I made this banner with this theme in mind!
Here are some close ups!

As you can see I used many papers from GCD Studios Homespun Chic Collection by Melody Ross! The bright colors are so fun, perfect for a birthday (or un birthday!) party! I am so glad I save all my extra scraps when I create a layout! I used border punches by Martha Stewart for the edges, inked them with Staz On Ink in Cherry Pink!.

The stamped images are from Clear Art Stamps. The flowers are coffee filters, punched with a scalloped circle punch and sprayed with a little Glimmer Mist. The acrylic banner is actually two different banners (Birthday Banner and Acrylic Large Banner) combined from Clear Scraps. I ran all the acrylic pieces through my Cuttlebug.

Aren't the images fun for a party? I am thinking some balloons to match the colors in the papers!!
Does anybody know where I can find some really big tea cups?

Well I hope you are inspired to do your own project! Maybe you can throw an "unbirthday party"! If you do I want to see your pics! Link it to me!!! And thanks for stopping by!

Oh and here's wishing you a very merry unbirthday!

Womens rights...

Disclaimer: I am not an activist and this is not what you think..I hope I got your attention and I hope that you will read on...

This months kit at Scrapbooking From The Inside Out is called Femininity and we have all come up with topics that I think you might not think of for our layouts when it somes to this subject.
I am no exception. This is a topic that is so important to me, especially because it effects me personally.
SO although you may have come just to look at a pretty layout I encourage you to read my journaling on this page.

If it is easier to read, here is the journal.

My son and I were watching a TV show “Law and Order” and in the episode a woman was pregnant and drinking, heavily. They explained on the show that any drinking can cause permanent damage to the fetus (baby), the husband (although separated) was trying to fight for custody of the unborn child and trying to get the woman in rehab for the term of her pregnancy so that she would not be allowed to drink and he could adopt the baby when it was born. This woman had already given one baby up for adoption and turned out that the first baby had Fetal Alcohol Syndrome. There was a whole lot more to it, but the bottom line was that her rights as a woman - the right to drink- outweighed the rights of the unborn child and it made me sick.

Perhaps because I know that there are many women out there like this woman who continue to drink (among other things) knowing that they are pregnant. Perhaps it is because it is personal; I am raising their children and know the struggles these children face in a daily basis because of the choices their biological mothers have made. Oh, I know it is your right to drink, to party, to use drugs but it is not alright to force someone else to do the same- especially a baby. (Even if you call it a fetus.)

It was amazing to my son that they were explaining Fetal Alcohol Syndrome and how even one drink can cause it. He thought everyone knew this and he is fifteen. The sad truth is that some people still don’t know and the damage done to the baby by drinking is not reversible - brain damage, no inhibitions, lack of good judgment, mood swings, physical deformities, uncontrollable and reckless behavior…The list goes on and on. I wish that every student could learn this before they ever took a drink. It breaks my heart for the children as well as the mothers that didn’t know what they were doing at the time. It blows my mind and infuriates me that someone would do this knowing what it could cause to their unborn child. We have a right to protect ourselves, but who will protect the children?

Intense. I know but it's true. Sad and infuriating. It had to be said, I wish everyone knew this but sadly that is not the case. I am not trying to hurt feelings but the truth is these children will suffer the rest of their lives. SO there it is, I hope you read there I am interested in your thoughts and if you knew this. Have a blessed day.
